About Sofie
Born and raised in Goa, India, I grew up watching my grandmother cook traditional, Portuguese-inspired Goan dishes using fresh homegrown produce and firewood. Under her guidance, I learned to create simple, authentic meals shaped by centuries of Portuguese influence during Goa’s 421 years of colonization.
With a passion for cooking instilled by my grandmother, who saw it as key to family life, I completed my graduation, built a corporate career in the Middle East, started a family with three children, and moved to Auckland, New Zealand in 2016.
Loved for its authentic flavors, my food quickly gained appreciation in Auckland, leading to the launch of Sofie’s Food Specialty Ltd. in April 2021. In 2022, I was selected for The Kitchen Project’s 8th Cohort, a program supporting local food entrepreneurs, which helped grow my small family business further.
With my family's support, we blend tradition, authenticity, and fusion to create food that’s familiar, natural, and truly satisfying for the people of Aotearoa.
