About Sofie
Born and raised in Goa, India, I grew up watching my grandmother cook traditional, Portuguese-inspired Goan dishes using fresh homegrown produce and firewood. Under her guidance, I learned to create simple, authentic meals shaped by centuries of Portuguese influence during Goa’s 421 years of colonization.
Cooking has always been close to my heart, a passion lovingly passed down by my grandmother, who believed the kitchen was the soul of the family. Guided by her warmth and wisdom, I completed my education, built a career in the corporate world across the Middle East, and started a beautiful family with three children. In 2016, we began a new chapter in Auckland, New Zealand — carrying with us not just memories, but the rich flavors of home.
Loved for its authentic flavors, my food quickly found a special place in Auckland’s hearts, leading to the launch of Sofie’s Food Specialty Ltd. in April 2021. In 2022, I was honored to be selected for The Kitchen Project’s 8th Cohort—a program that supports local food entrepreneurs. This opportunity helped my small family business grow.
