About Sofie
Born and raised in Goa, India, living in a family home I’d watch my grandmother cook up a storm in the kitchen adapting traditional methods with the freshest home grown produce and the use of firewood. Under her guidance, I learnt to make simple, fresh, and authentic Portuguese inspired Goan food. The Portuguese recipes found their way into our food, either in their original form or with local adaptations due to the colonization of Goa for 421 years.

With cooking already instilled in me at a young age which my grandmother thought was a key to build my future family life, I then embarked on the journey to complete my graduation. Life happened - I landed in the corporate world, enjoyed great career exchanges with leading companies in the Middle East, had a family with three children and moved to Auckland, New Zealand in 2016.
My food was greatly appreciated and loved for its authenticity and flavors by my new whanau here in Auckland and thus Sofie’s Food Specialty Ltd. was born in April 2021. The Auckland’s culinary scene I thought needed more than authenticity, that’s when opportunity knocked in the year 2022, I was selected by The Kitchen Project, Auckland to be part of their 8th Cohort that focuses on developing budding local food entrepreneurs. This program paved the way in establishing my small family business further.

With the support of my family, we constantly experiment with tradition, authenticity and fusion to present food that is familiar, yet natural and truly taste buds’ content to serve the people of Aotearoa.
